DRIVING FROM THE NORTH

Coming from the north: Head down the main road between Arusha and Tanga (passing through Moshi). About 30kms from Tanga you will pass through a small town called Muheza. In the middle of town there is a turning off the main road (just before a fuel station) to the right sign posted ‘Pangani’. Take this road which is not tarmacked and follow for approx 40 kms, and then you will come to the top of a hill with the ocean in front of you. Head down to the T junction (in front of you you will see many sign boards). Turn right to Pangani which is only a few kilometres. Follow the tarmac road in Pangani to the ferry terminal. Buy a ticket at the booth – 5000/- per vehicle + 1 driver + 200/- per passengers (who have to walk on to the ferry).Once across the Pangani River follow the only road up a small incline and continue along the main road through Mwera which is approx 5kms. Once through Mwera you will see the Police Station on the left and a mobile telephone mast, after about 1 km the road will split. Keep on the main road to the left hand side and in about 200m after the split on the left-hand side you will see the signs for all the lodges. This turn off point is about 12 kms from the ferry. Turn left and keep straight till you get a T junction. Turn right at the T-junction and right again in front of the Ushongo village. Continue straight till you see a huge baobab tree on your left. 

Journey time is between 7-8 hours

DRIVING FROM THE SOUTH

Get onto the Chalinze to Segera road and head north towards Segera and then to Tanga. About 30 kms from Tanga you will pass through Muheza. Please follow the same directions as above. Journey Time from Dar es Salaam between 5-6 hours. Route from Dar es Salaam to Ushongo via Saadani National Park: From Dar es Salaam head north on the Bagomoyo Road towards Bagomoyo. Just before Bagomoyo you will get to a road where you turn left towards Mkata. Follow this road for approximately 8 kms until you see a sign on the right towards Saadani. This is not a tarmacked road and you will need a vehicle with a high clearance and preferable 4x4. Continue for approx 1 hour to the Wami Gate. Here you will need to pay park fees. Continue through the park and out at Mdete gate. Keep on the same road past Sakura heading north towards Mwera and Pangani. Just before Mwera you will see a sign for Ushongo Beach Hotels to the right and take this. Then follow as per directions above.
